Stories of Service,
Family & Connection
Leon’s projects bring together art, military service, faith, and family to tell deeply personal stories. They include letters exchanged with his mother throughout his 20-year Navy career and a letter he wrote to his son before his first deployment. Each project preserves a piece of family history while highlighting the bonds that sustain us across distance and generations.
Letters That Carry Us Home
Love and Connection Across the Miles
For those serving far from home, a letter can mean more than words on paper. Mail call brings news, encouragement, love, and a connection to the people waiting back home. Leon’s projects capture that experience from both sides—as a sailor receiving letters from his mother and, years later, as a father writing to his deployed son. Through art, these personal letters become a lasting reminder of the families who serve alongside those in uniform.
A Story That Comes Full Circle
From Son, to Sailor, to Father
Together, the two projects tell a story that comes full circle—from son, to sailor, to father. Through letters written across generations, Leon’s work reflects the enduring love of family, the importance of faith, and the value of staying connected through the challenges of military service.
